5% from Week 1 to 10, 2% during Week 5, 5% for “Studio” Time from Week 11 to 15, 5% for Check-In Surveys, 3% during Week 16
All students are expected to actively participate in class sessions. Participation means that each student will ask intelligent questions about the readings, raise pertinent issues for discussion, make helpful contributions to the discussion, and answer pointed questions posed by the instructor. Course participation will also be assessed each week via attendance, “studio” time and completion of check-in surveys.
Attendance is mandatory. Please be on time for each class session.
Please do not leave the class session early, except for emergencies. As a courtesy, students are expected to email the instructor before the class session to notify them that they have to leave early.
Outside of class time, students will be expected to schedule additional hours to work independently on their projects. For every 1 credit a student registers for, they must schedule 1 hours of “studio” time starting Week 11. The scheduled class meeting does not count towards the required hours. Students will be required to log their hours on the course calendar.
Check-in surveys are design to provide near real-time feedback to the instructor on your progress in the class. These surveys count towards your class participation grade. Some surveys will be anonymous, however most will not to allow the instructor to follow up on any issues that arise. If the survey is anonymous, it will be clearly stated at the top of the survey.
Check-in surveys during Week 11 through 16 will include a peer review section of each individual’s contribution and effort towards the class project.
All check-in surveys, except for the first check-in survey, are due on Thursdays at 11:59 PM HST. The first check-in survey is due Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 12:00 PM HST, before the first lecture session. There are 5 surveys in total.
